Mark is a cool dude. He loves his house, and loves his garden. He also likes to travel a bit. So he thought he would share his home while away, which is this September and October. The valley-wide ski/bicycle trail is located just outside the door, and the garden is just 'out back'. If you have the time, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the Methow Valley.

There are actually two spaces available. The first is the principal, queen 1-bedroom, 1-office, 1-bathroom house. The second is the guest cottage, which is it's own self-sufficient queen-bed apartment. Both spaces share an entrance to the flowered back yard patio, picnic table and BBQ.

Mark is a reader, and an appreciator of music, as you could plainly tell once inside the home. Furnishings are tasteful and non-cluttered. The home-office is well-equipped, spacious and aesthetic, with a view to the south, and the backyard flower garden. The queen bedroom is sufficient, though not large. (He says he doesn't spend a lot of time in the bedroom so why make it excessive). Bath is 3/4 (shower, no tub). The kitchen is well-appointed, light, airy, and leads out to the garden through a sliding glass door. Come September, the mid-day light will be reaching into the interior of the home through the large south-facing windows. Perfect for solar gain during the day.

Mark spent two years building this house and his attempt was to make it as efficient as possible. There are solar panels that feed back to the power grid. The ceiling has R-80 insulation, and the walls R-50. The concrete floor, with its mass, holds the heat of the day and radiates at night. There is one small heater in the house, since there is no need for anything else. How elegant.

The guest cottage, is just that. Basically a large studio apartment, with queen bed, sofa, small office space and a 'light' kitchen. (Zoning would not let him put a stove in the house, since that would suggest two homes on one property). A very nice place to hang out.

Once, weekly, there is a housekeeper who cleans. She can continue, at no cost to the guest, if so desired during the month of September. Because of the covenants for this neighborhood, the minimum number of nights that can be rented is 60 days.
